News: Theatre praying for plenty of good habits

What do you call a gathering of nuns? A convent, a habit, a wimple?

Whatever the terminology, staff at Norwich’s Theatre Royal are praying for a sea of black and white to take over the venue on Wednesday, as an attempt is made to smash the current world record for the most people dressed as nuns in one location.

Inspired by the visit of hit musical Sister Act, audiences are being challenged to arrive early, ahead of Wednesday’s show, dressed as nuns to take part in this wacky world record attempt.

The current record stands at 250 people but theatre staff are hoping Norfolk audiences will be divine and smash that record.

Strict rules are in place to ensure compliance with the Guinness World Record rules, each participant must be dressed in a holy habit, white coif and black veil to qualify and will be checked by adjudicators as they enter the auditorium.

The record attempt is being supported by cast-members from Sister Act as well as theatre staff and volunteers, and even the Bishop of Norwich, the Right Revd Graham James is lending his support as an official adjudicator.

For John Bultitude from the Theatre Royal the arrival of Sister Act seemed an ideal opportunity for a record attempt: “Where better than Norwich Theatre Royal to host a challenge involving lots of people dressing up in costumes?”
